Woodman Group's Client Story

Woodman Group of Companies, a long standing client of Key to I.T.’s, came to me requesting solution to replace an existing online training system which was not adequate for their requirements as the content could not be managed by Woodman Group.

The Brief

• Develop software to provide safety inductions and training for employees.
• The content must be easily configurable by Woodman Group.
• Must allow the inclusion of images and video.
• Induction/Training Refreshers must be automatically managed with notifications sent out prior to the expiration date of training.
• The new system must send out notifications on completion of inductions, and for overdue inductions.
• Certificates must be produced in PDF Format and stored.
• Electronic documents must be kept, providing an auditable record of the content completed.
• Must be able to be used on any device within the organisation.

The Solution

• Our recommended solution was a .NET Web Application connected to a SQL Server database.
• As a lot of the employees completing inductions don't have their own email address, the login system was designed with that in mind, implementing a username and password for them. Email addresses were only compulsory for Managers.
• An Automated task function, triggered by windows task scheduler, sends out email the email notifications.
• A windows pc was used to host the application Microsoft IIS Server and SQL Server. This was an inexpensive choice and could easily handle the load. The server and database software used is free.
• The choice was made by Woodman Group to keep the software installed inhouse so no ongoing subscription costs would be incurred.
